Aiport Tenerife South


Situated in the south of the island right in the heart of the tourism centre, South Tenerife airport was inaugurated by Queen Sofía on 6 November 1978.

In its first year, the airport exceeded one million passengers.

Tenerife Sur Airport is open 24 hours a day. It currently provides more than one hundred connections and more than 150 companies operate within its facilities.

Most of the traffic handled by the airport is international. The United Kingdom and Germany account for more than half of the overall traffic, the Manchester, London/Gatwick, London//Stansted, Birmingham and East Midland airports contributing the highest numbers of passengers. Domestic traffic is concentrated around Madrid; Málaga, Gran Canaria and Barcelona.

Located in the north of the island, in the municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the airport is only 10 kilometers from the capital (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).

Traffic is mainly national in regular type and, within it, about 48 percent of flights are connections to other islands of the archipelago: Gran Canaria, La Palma, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, El Hierro and La Gomera. It also links through regular domestic traffic with other airports in the rest of Spain. The most important destination is Madrid with more than one million passengers, followed by Barcelona, Seville and Bilbao.

In 2020, the airport registered a traffic of 2,795,952 passengers, 46,100 operations and 9,643 a lot of merchandise.
